Vinyl Wall Covering

Vinyl Wall Covering Surface Preparation – All surfaces should be structurally sound and the sand finished plaster should be flatten. In order to insure great adhesion, loose paint flakes and old wall covering should be removed and wall surfaces should be primed with appropriate primer. Don’t hang vinyl over wax crayon, ballpoint pen writing, foreign matter or wick pen markings that may be on the wall. These impurities may bleed even after one year of installation. It’s suggested that lead pencils be used to mark walls or vinyl as the use of a pencil shouldn’t produce bleed through after effects.

In order to insure maximum smoothness of installation, gouges, nicks, nail heads and other imperfections the wall should be sealed and sanded smooth. Dry wall joints should be sanded, bedded and taped smooth. One of the main characteristic of vinyl wall covering is that it has very little or no moisture permeability at all. This feature is important benefit in terms of wall protection and clean-ability and in limiting the moisture in your interior from entering the wall cavity. However, if the construction, design or maintenance of a building, or other circumstances allows vapor or liquid moisture to accumulate in a wall or in its cavity, vinyl wall covering can act as a barrier for vapor restricting the escape of moisture and decreasing the risk of mold growth.

Constructions that have moisture infiltration issues are risk for mildew and mold growth and any such issue must be corrected prior to the vinyl wall covering installation. This product is intended for use in constructions that are properly maintained and designed to avoid moisture infiltration, accumulation and/or consideration at wall surfaces and cavities, specifically in humid, warm climates.
